Skiing in the sun

Magical firn snow
In late winter, when temperatures climb up over zero on the slopes yet still fall far below freezing overnight, a type of snow develops which brings a smile to any skier's face: firn snow.
Soelden and the entire Oetztal Valley are surrounded by 600 peaks and home to some of the highest mountains in Austria. They have one of the highest levels of guaranteed snow in the Tyrol. The ski season starts here for many in October with glacier skiing and ends at the beginning of May with skiing in the firn snow.
The right time for firn snow
If you tackle the firn snow too early, the pistes will still be too hard. In the morning, the slopes to the East develop firn snow and skiing in the Oetztal becomes a real pleasure. In the afternoon, switch to the West slopes to take advantage of the firn snow all day long! It takes a bit of practice, but you will soon be able to enjoy the firn slopes like a professional!

Taking a break
After a fun morning in the firn snow, enjoy traditional cuisine at the restaurant on the Tiefenbach Glacier. The Tyrolean treats served here taste twice as good in the cosy granite lounges! And don't forget to apply plenty of sun cream to your face!
